It appears the years of negotiations between the United Federation of Planets and Klingon Empire have come to naught. We have received orders from Star Fleet Command to proceed with all possible haste to rendezvous with Enterprise and other major elements of the fleet near the planet Organia. Because of this system’s strategic position, there can be little doubt that the first major action in the long dreaded war between Federation and Empire will be fought there. I can only hope that collateral damage to the planet and its primitive people will be minimal.

Commendations are in order for Commander L’Shal and her entire Engineering staff. We are currently maintaining a speed of better than warp 9.21 – well beyond Intrepid’s technical specifications. At this rate, we will reach the most probable point of conflict in 17.128 hours. Lt. Commander Selett, the ship’s Chief Historian, informs me that his analysis of the situation indicates less than 1 chance in 747 of the Diplomatic Corps resolving the situation in that time.

At times like this I almost envy the human race’s optimism.
